Prayer for Peace
Spend some time praying for the peace of Jesus. We start with ourselves. We all want world peace, but Jesus works on all of our hearts. His peace passes all understanding, and we need that understanding in our lives. As we start with ourselves, we will also reach out beyond ourselves, but first we need the peace of Jesus in our own heart, mind and soul. May his peace start there and work its way into all areas that we can think about.
As we pray for peace it can feel futile at times. There is so much war and even more rumors of wars. There is so much in this world that wants to take us away from peace. There is so much violence in speech and action. We can think about tensions in this world today. There is often tension in our families, our city, our work, our country and throughout the whole world. So much that would come in and create the darkness that comes in a lack of peace.
Jesus is the prince of peace. He came to bring peace. His peace pushes back the darkness. As we pray, let us pray in faith that Jesus not only can bring peace, but will bring peace. Jesus is bigger than the problems that face each and every one of us. He can be our peace, let us hide in the shadow of his wings and find peace as all around us may rage, we will be protected in the Prince of Peace.
Pray through the following areas:
Peace of Jesus in our hearts, minds and souls.
Peace of Jesus in our homes and with our families.
Peace of Jesus in our work.
Peace of Jesus in our city.
Peace of Jesus in our country.
Peace of Jesus in our world.
End with this doxology from Common Prayer: A Liturgy For Ordinary Radicals
May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you: wherever he may send you;
May he guide you through the wilderness: protect you through the storm;
May he bring you home rejoicing: at the wonders he has shown you;
May he bring you home rejoicing: once again into our doors.
