Light a candle and pray Jesus light of the world come into our darkness and be our joy!
Read Psalm 126 as a prayer.
For a few years now Psalm 126 has been one of my favorite prayers for my life, and the life of my family. There have been 100 reasons for that over the years. Each day that it is prayed a different element is on display for my soul to be refreshed.
The first day that Hadassah and I were in Cambodia before we left to start our day I read this prayer over us. If I'm honest I did it flippantly. I did it because I felt like we were supposed to pray and read scripture since we were on a mission trip. But the Holy Spirit met us there.
As I read this prayer it was very evident that when Mo left Cambodia it was with tears, and confusion. She was six and her emotions reflected that as she left behind everything she'd ever know, esspecially her loved ones. She left in tears. Now I was there with Mo's daughter and there was joy in Hadassah's heart as we started this adventure. We were leaving to meet up with new cousins we had just met as well as a Aunt and Uncle that love Hadassah so much. Hadassah had so much joy. For me it was the start of tears of gratitude that Jesus was so good from generation to generation. Jesus was restoring the fortunes of his loved ones and I was witnessing it first hand. What joy!
What in life do you need Jesus to restore? Where are the areas that you've gone out with weeping, maybe you are still weeping over it and you want to come back to with shouts of joy? Where do you need to start to dream again as Jesus renews your joy?
Take a moment and acknowledge these in prayer. Remember that Jesus likes to restore and he likes to give us joy. Let us lean into his Holy Spirit to lead and guide us as we pray.
