Knowing Jesus Love

It would be amazing to follow Jesus as clear as a pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night. In some ways I believe that would be easier than taking the time to listen to Jesus and follow the Holy Spirit’s promptings in our life. But this is not how it works. Sometimes we stumble around instead of follow, sometimes we feel so close to Jesus that it brings tears to our eyes.

I’ve always loved the old Delirious lyric “Sometimes You’re further than the moon. Sometimes You’re closer than my skin.” They go on to sing; “And my heart burns for you.” The desire that they were singing about is the desire to be close to Jesus. In following Jesus, we don’t always have the feelings of his closeness. We don’t always see a cloud by day and fire by night. Yet Jesus is close to us, even closer to us than he was to the Israelites roaming through the wilderness. He left us the Holy Spirit to allow us to be close.

In His love Jesus wants us to know that he is near to those of us who come to him. He is near to the broken hearted. Those who seek him, will find him. So, we seek. We come. May we experience all through this next year the closeness of Jesus. In that may we know His great love for us.

Today we are going to give some of time to waiting to feel Jesus love. We want to train our hearts and minds to see where Jesus is and be there with him. We want to feel the love of Jesus and so we set aside time to allow him to love on us.

Set a timer for ten minutes and spend that time in silence waiting for Jesus to shine into our darkness and be our love.
