Light a candle and pray Jesus light of the world come into our darkness and be our HOPE!
Read Exodus 1:1-22, 2:23-25
Sustained Hope
Living with hope doesn’t mean things always look awesome. Hope doesn’t just live in light, as a part of the light, it can be in darkness too. If we look at this passage from Exodus, we can see that hope might take a long time to fulfill, and that in the waiting God is working. While the Israelites were enslaved, building a kingdom that was never going to be theirs, they had to hold on to hope. Hope that one day God would come and rescue them. Their souls were waiting for God to show up and be their salvation.
We can live a life filled with hope. We can cultivate hope in our life even amongst the mundane. Even in the dark Jesus can shine through. We can have hope in moments, but it will serve us best if we can have sustained hope. We need hope every day. It doesn’t matter if that day is great or something horrific happened, hope can be there. We can invite Jesus into the midst of our dark places and be our hope.
One of the things I love about this story is that God was working his plan all along. There wasn’t a moment of any day that was wasted in the waiting. God remembered, but really, he never forgot. His plan was at work even though few if anybody would be able to see it. Waiting for hope to be fulfilled is difficult, but necessary. One of the reasons for this story is that we might be able to learn to trust God with our hopes. Trust that God is truly at work. This is not very popular today because we love quick results, but that is not always the way of Jesus. He has a plan and is working it, but he also knows the perfect timing in it all.
Today we are going to spend some time waiting. Training ourselves that it is good to wait on Jesus, he will come through. He sees, knows, and cares. My prayer is that we will not grow impatient and give up on the hopes that He has placed in our hearts.
Set a timer for ten minutes and spend that time in silence waiting for Jesus to shine into our darkness and be our hope. End your time with a prayer and this worship song. .
